How to make videos with Zapier

Zapier MCP usually means Zapier's own server, which lets Claude or ChatGPT use your Zapier apps. To have a Zap make videos you need the other direction: MCP Client by Zapier, which calls an outside server such as Cliptude. Connect it, approve each video's price in Slack or email, and Cliptude renders a finished 16:9 YouTube video from 6 to 60 minutes long.

Cliptude MCP server URL

https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp

Streamable HTTP. OAuth: set OAuth to Yes and sign in with your Cliptude Google account in the tab Zapier opens. A clp_ key in the Bearer Token field (with OAuth set to No) is the alternative.

How to connect Zapier to Cliptude

  1. In Zapier, open the Apps page, click + Add connection and choose MCP Client.
  2. Paste the Cliptude URL as the Server URL and choose Streamable HTTP as the Transport.
    https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp
  3. Set OAuth to Yes and continue. Sign in to Cliptude in the tab that opens and allow access. (With OAuth set to No, paste a clp_ key from /developers/ into Bearer Token instead.)
  4. Rename the connection to Cliptude so you can find it in the Zap editor.
  5. In a Zap, add an MCP Client step, choose Run Read-Only Tool, pick list_templates and test the step. Your saved Cliptude templates come back in the content array.

The MCP Client connection:

Server URL: https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp
Transport: Streamable HTTP
OAuth: Yes (sign in with your Cliptude account)
Bearer Token: leave empty (only used when OAuth is No: clp_…)

MCP Client is a beta feature, and Zapier says it may change. It supports tool calls only, over Streamable HTTP or SSE. Turn on Parse Content on a step to get Cliptude's JSON as structuredContent fields you can map.

Which way should I connect Zapier to Cliptude?

Remote MCP server

Start here

Paste the URL and sign in with Google. Nothing to install.

Local MCP server

Not in Zapier

uvx cliptude-mcp with a clp_ key; it can send files from your disk.

CLI and skill

Not in Zapier

The Cliptude CLI and skill, for agents that run shell commands.

Why make videos with Zapier and Cliptude?

Built-in approval

Human in the Loop pauses the Zap until you approve the Cliptude review by email or Slack.

Waiting is free

Delay by Zapier holds the Zap while the video renders and does not count as a task.

Thousands of apps

Send the finished link to Slack, Gmail, Sheets or Notion with the Zapier actions you already use.

Up to an hour long

Finished 16:9 YouTube videos from 6 to 60 minutes, rendered as one MP4.

Real footage and graphics

Cliptude sources footage and archive pictures and builds animated maps, charts, captions and music around the narration.

The price before the build

estimate_credits quotes a job and checks your balance without creating or charging anything.

A Zap that makes a Cliptude video every week, after you approve it

  1. Schedule by Zapier: Every Week, Monday at 9:00. Then a Zapier Agents step (or another AI step) with the instructions from the skills section writes the week's title and narration.
  2. MCP Client → Run Tool: create_job with your template_id, the title, the script and a thumbnail_reference_url, with Parse Content on. Cliptude creates nothing yet and returns its review (settings, warnings, credits) and a review_token, valid for 24 hours.
  3. Human in the Loop → Request Approval: send the review to yourself by Slack or email, and set a decline to stop the Zap.
  4. MCP Client → Run Tool: create_job again with the same arguments plus the review_token (and acknowledge, if the review listed items you accepted). Keep the job id.
  5. Delay by Zapier → Delay For 45 minutes, then MCP Client → Run Read-Only Tool: get_job. Paths: if the status is completed, go on; otherwise add a second Delay For and get_job.
  6. Slack or Gmail: send the video link. Before you publish, open the job in Cliptude, or ask a chat agent to run open_editor_project and view_scenes, and look at every frame.

Zapier skills: Zapier's agent skills, and where Cliptude's rules go in a Zap

Zapier publishes agent skills, but they are for coding agents, not for Zaps. zapier/agent-skills installs with npx skills add zapier/agent-skills and teaches an agent such as Claude Code or Cursor to set up, build, inspect and change Zapier Workflows. The zapier-mcp plugin adds onboarding and role skills on top of Zapier MCP in Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and others.

A Zap or Zapier Agent has no skills folder of its own, and the skills CLI has no Zapier target. The equivalent is the agent's instructions, which it follows in order, or the prompt of the AI step that writes your narration. Paste the rules from the cliptude-script skill there: research the topic, write the spoken narration, and never pass the title as the prompt.

If you build your Zaps with a coding agent, install both sets there: npx skills add zapier/agent-skills for Zapier, and npx skills add cliptude/cliptude for Cliptude's cliptude, cliptude-script and cliptude-plan skills.

Install in a coding agent that builds your Zapier workflows:
npx skills add zapier/agent-skills
npx skills add cliptude/cliptude
Instructions for the Zapier Agent or AI step that writes the narration:
You write narration for long-form 16:9 YouTube videos made with Cliptude.
- Research this week's topic and write the spoken narration only, about 150 words a minute.
- Never use the video title as the narration.
- Return the title and the script. Do not start a video.

Zapier vs n8n vs Make for a weekly YouTube video workflow

All three can call Cliptude from a schedule. Zapier is the quickest to set up, with a ready approval step and free waiting, but the full workflow needs a paid plan and each completed action counts as a task. n8n bills per run and can be self-hosted, which suits frequent videos; Make sits between them with per-action credits on a visual canvas.

Zapier pricing: what the Zap costs next to Cliptude

Zapier's Free plan has 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps only, so it cannot run this workflow, and Delay and Human in the Loop are not on it. Professional starts at $19.99 a month billed annually ($29.99 monthly) for 750 tasks; Team starts at $69 a month billed annually for 2,000 tasks. Each completed action is a task; triggers, failed actions and built-in tools such as Delay, Formatter and Paths are not counted.

Zapier MCP, the server that gives AI clients your Zapier actions, uses 2 tasks per successful tool call from the same pool. A weekly video Zap uses a handful of tasks per run plus the AI step's model. The video itself is charged to your Cliptude credits, on a plan from $19; Cliptude has no free plan.

What is Zapier?

Zapier is a no-code automation platform. A Zap starts from a trigger, such as a schedule or a new row, and runs actions in other apps; Zapier Agents are AI agents that follow written instructions with the same apps. MCP Client by Zapier, in beta, adds tool calls to any remote MCP server, which is how a Zap reaches Cliptude.

Zapier MCP or MCP Client by Zapier?

Zapier MCP is a server at mcp.zapier.com that lets an AI client such as Claude run Zapier actions, at 2 tasks per successful tool call. MCP Client by Zapier works the other way: a Zap or agent calls an outside MCP server. To make Cliptude videos from a Zap, use MCP Client.

Run Tool or Run Read-Only Tool?

Run Read-Only Tool is a search for tools that change nothing, such as list_templates, estimate_credits and get_job, which Cliptude marks read-only. Use the Run Tool action for create_job, which starts a job and spends credits.

What can you ask Zapier to do?

"Every Monday, write a 10-minute narration on the week's biggest space story and send me the Cliptude review in Slack."

"When I approve, start the job with the review_token and post the video link to #videos when it is ready."

"List my Cliptude templates and the credits a 12-minute script would cost with my History template."

Cliptude answers create_job with a review and a review_token and creates nothing until the same call comes back with that token. Put a Human in the Loop Request Approval step between the two calls, so a Zap never starts a video you have not seen priced.

Zapier MCP and MCP Client are different products. Zapier MCP (mcp.zapier.com) is a server that gives Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor your Zapier actions; MCP Client lets a Zap call someone else's server. You can use both: connect Cliptude and Zapier MCP to Claude, have Claude make the video, then use a Zapier action to post the link.

Which videos can Zapier make?

Each format is 16:9 and made from a template you save once. On agent-planned formats the agent chooses every shot and graphic itself.

What the Cliptude MCP server can do

44 tools in 7 groups: templates, voices and avatars (9), making a video (8), product videos from a store (4), agent-planned videos (12), your own narration (2), editing a finished video (8), account (1). Your agent sees them all once connected; estimate_credits, create_job and get_job are the ones most videos need. Every tool, with what it does

Troubleshooting

  • You are asked to reconnect straight away: check that the Server URL ends in /mcp and the Transport is Streamable HTTP, then reconnect.
  • A Bearer-only connection (OAuth: No) does not finish: one Zapier community thread reports this; use OAuth: Yes, which Cliptude supports.

Frequently asked questions

Can Zapier connect to a remote MCP server?

Yes, with MCP Client by Zapier (beta): add a connection with the Server URL, Transport and OAuth or a Bearer Token, then use Run Tool or Run Read-Only Tool in a Zap.

Is Zapier MCP the same as MCP Client?

No. Zapier MCP exposes your Zapier actions to AI clients; MCP Client lets Zapier call an outside MCP server such as Cliptude. MCP Client cannot connect to Zapier's own MCP servers.

Can a Zap make a video every week?

Yes. Schedule by Zapier starts the Zap, an AI step writes the narration, Cliptude returns its review, and Human in the Loop waits for your approval before the job starts.

Does Zapier need the Cliptude skills?

Zaps have no skills folder. Put the rules in your Zapier Agent's instructions or the AI step's prompt; see the skills section below.

What does a video cost?

A faceless documentary is 22 credits a minute with your own voiceover and 40 with an ElevenLabs voice, on plans from $19/mo. Zapier tasks and any AI model are billed separately.

Is there a free plan?

No. Cliptude has no free plan and no free credits.

What is Zapier MCP?

Zapier MCP is a hosted MCP server that gives AI clients such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor access to actions in 9,000+ apps through your Zapier account. You manage it at mcp.zapier.com.

How do I connect Zapier MCP to Claude?

Add the server URL https://mcp.zapier.com/api/v1/connect to your client, following Zapier's client guide. Then connect Cliptude to the same client, and Claude can make a video and use Zapier actions to share it.

How much does Zapier MCP cost?

It runs on your Zapier plan with no separate MCP fee. Each successful tool call uses 2 tasks; failed calls and listing tools use none.

Is Zapier free?

Zapier has a Free plan with 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps. Multi-step Zaps, Delay and Human in the Loop need Professional or higher.

Zapier vs n8n: which is better for making videos?

Zapier is faster to set up and has a built-in approval step; n8n bills per workflow run and can be self-hosted. Both can call Cliptude's MCP server.

Can Zapier upload the video to YouTube?

Cliptude gives you the MP4 link. Uploading it is a separate step with Zapier's YouTube integration or by hand.

Make your first video from your agent

Plans from $19/mo to $875/mo, priced per finished minute; a 1-hour documentary costs from $32. Cliptude has no free plan, so watch the sample videos first to judge the output.
