How to make videos with MausBot

MausBot, the open-source OpenMausBot, gives each bot its own model, computer and tools. Add Cliptude from Plugins → MCP servers, sign in once, and any bot can write a narration, plan the visuals and have Cliptude render a finished YouTube video, 6 to 60 minutes long.

Cliptude MCP server URL

https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp

Streamable HTTP. OAuth: MausBot finds Cliptude's sign-in from its 401 response and opens it in your browser. Or an Authorization: Bearer header with a clp_ key.

How to connect MausBot to Cliptude

  1. Install MausBot from mausbot.com (Mac, Windows or Ubuntu), or run it with npx:
    npx openmausbot
  2. Open Plugins → MCP servers → Add server and paste the Cliptude URL. Keep the connection on Streamable HTTP.
    https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp
  3. Press Add. The test gets Cliptude's sign-in details, the row shows Needs sign-in, and Sign in opens the Google sign-in in your browser. When it shows Signed in, the test lists the Cliptude tools.
  4. If a bot has its own tool selection, open its Tools → Access → MCP servers and tick cliptude. Bots set to use every enabled server get it on their next task.
  5. Ask the bot to list your Cliptude templates.

The same entry in ~/.openmausbot/config.json (restart OpenMausBot after editing the file by hand). type http is Streamable HTTP:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "cliptude": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

MausBot never pre-approves a server you add: each Cliptude call shows as an Allow or Deny card in the chat, so create_job and render_project wait for you.

Which way should I connect MausBot to Cliptude?

Remote MCP server

Start here

Paste the URL and sign in with Google. Nothing to install.

Local MCP server

Works

uvx cliptude-mcp with a clp_ key; it can send files from your disk.

CLI and skill

Works

The Cliptude CLI and skill, for agents that run shell commands.

Why make videos with MausBot and Cliptude?

A bot per job

Give one bot the channel's videos, with its own model, skills and Cliptude access.

Routines on a timetable

Ask in plain words for a weekly run; MausBot turns it into a cron routine and wakes the bot.

Approve each spend

Cliptude calls arrive as Allow or Deny cards, so nothing spends credits without your click.

Up to an hour long

Finished 16:9 YouTube videos from 6 to 60 minutes, rendered as one MP4.

Real footage and graphics

Cliptude sources footage and archive pictures and builds animated maps, charts, captions and music around the narration.

The price before the build

estimate_credits quotes a job and checks your balance without creating or charging anything.

A MausBot workflow: a weekly video from a routine

  1. Make a bot for the channel on the Claude engine, give it the three Cliptude skills, and check cliptude under its Tools → Access → MCP servers.
  2. Tell it the timetable in plain words, for example "every Monday at 9 am in America/New_York, research this week's topic and write a 12-minute narration". MausBot turns that into a cron routine and its card shows the next three dates.
  3. On each run the bot calls list_templates and estimate_credits. Custom MCP servers are never pre-approved in MausBot, so create_job (or create_plan_job, check_plan and lock_plan for an agent-planned video) waits as an Allow or Deny card until you approve.
  4. To use your own narration, drop the recording in the bot's working folder: the bot calls start_voiceover_upload, uploads the parts with a shell command (another approval card), then finish_voiceover_upload, and passes the voiceover_url to create_job.
  5. The bot polls get_job, opens the result with open_editor_project, checks every frame with view_scenes, and only then posts you the link.

MausBot skills: give a bot the Cliptude skills

In MausBot each bot has its own skills, listed in Bot Settings → Skills with a switch per skill. Skills are SKILL.md folders. A team file applied with openmausbot team apply can list them per bot (skills: - { file: skills/<name>/SKILL.md, enabled: true }), and team export writes them back out the same way.

MausBot also uses the skills you already have. The first-run step Bring what you already use copies each skill in ~/.claude/skills and ~/.codex/skills into MausBot's own folder, and every bot gets them; a skill the scan flags arrives switched off. For bots on the Claude engine, the switch Also use my Claude Code skills (Plugins → MCP servers) loads ~/.claude/skills directly, so later edits show up too.

The skills CLI has no MausBot target, so the simplest route is to install the three Cliptude skills for Claude Code, then turn that switch on or let MausBot import them.

Install the Cliptude skills into ~/.claude/skills, where MausBot picks them up
npx skills add cliptude/cliptude -a claude-code -g
Or name them in a MausBot team file (paths relative to the file)
bots:
  - name: Video Producer
    skills:
      - { file: skills/cliptude/SKILL.md, enabled: true }
      - { file: skills/cliptude-script/SKILL.md, enabled: true }
      - { file: skills/cliptude-plan/SKILL.md, enabled: true }

MausBot vs OpenClaw for a YouTube channel

Both can make a video every week and both reach Cliptude as a remote MCP server. Pick MausBot if you want a desktop chat app where each bot has its own model and you approve every credit-spending call on a card. Pick OpenClaw if you want to ask for videos and get the link inside WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack or Discord.

Is MausBot free?

The MausBot app is free and open source under Apache 2.0, on Mac, Windows, Linux and phone. You bring your own Claude or ChatGPT account or an API key, and the pricing page says model usage on your account is billed by your provider. On the free plan, bots work while your computer is on.

Paid MausBot Cloud plans add an always-on cloud workspace: Starter at $15 a month (100 computer-hours), Pro at $49 and Max at $99, with Team at $169 for up to five people. Those prices were on mausbot.com/pricing on 2 November 2026.

None of this includes Cliptude. Videos use Cliptude credits, on plans from $19.

What is MausBot?

MausBot, also called OpenMausBot (formerly OpenGrokBot), is an open-source, Apache 2.0 chat app for a team of AI bots. Each bot runs on the claude, codex or grok CLI already logged in on your computer, or on an API model, and can have its own computer, connected apps and schedules.

It runs locally: one harness server on 127.0.0.1 runs every agent and keeps transcripts and keys in ~/.openmausbot. Optional MausBot Cloud plans add an always-on cloud machine.

Is MausBot the same as OpenMausBot?

Yes. The OpenMausBot README says it is also known as MausBot, and mausbot.com links to the same GitHub repository.

Is MausBot made by xAI?

No. It is an independent project inspired by Grok Bot and says it is not affiliated with xAI, Meta, OpenAI or Manus.

What can you ask MausBot to do?

"Every Monday at 9 am, research the week's biggest space story, write a 12-minute narration and make it with my Science template."

"Estimate the credits for a 20-minute documentary on the Berlin Airlift with my History template. Do not start it."

"Check every scene of my last video with view_scenes and replace any shot that is off-topic before you send me the link."

A headless server or a bot that cannot sign in: edit the server, add a header row named Authorization with the value Bearer clp_… (a key from /developers/), and test again. Header values are write-only in MausBot and are never shown again.

MausBot also runs local MCP servers by command. To send a voiceover from disk through the local server, add uvx cliptude-mcp under Run a command with your clp_ key as an environment variable.

Which videos can MausBot make?

Each format is 16:9 and made from a template you save once. On agent-planned formats the agent chooses every shot and graphic itself.

What the Cliptude MCP server can do

44 tools in 7 groups: templates, voices and avatars (9), making a video (8), product videos from a store (4), agent-planned videos (12), your own narration (2), editing a finished video (8), account (1). Your agent sees them all once connected; estimate_credits, create_job and get_job are the ones most videos need. Every tool, with what it does

Troubleshooting

  • Saved, but off: the test failed. With HTTP 401 or 403, use Fix the keys (header) or Sign in (OAuth); if it timed out, press Try again.
  • A bot does not see the Cliptude tools: it has its own MCP selection. Open the bot's Tools → Access → MCP servers and add cliptude, or choose Use every enabled server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add an MCP server to MausBot?

Plugins → MCP servers → Add server, then paste the server's URL, a claude mcp add command or an mcpServers JSON block. MausBot tests it and turns it on when it answers.

Does MausBot support MCP servers that need a sign-in?

Yes. When a server answers 401 with sign-in details, MausBot shows Needs sign-in and a Sign in button. Cliptude works this way.

Which MausBot bots can use Cliptude?

All of them: MausBot's docs list Streamable HTTP URL servers as reachable from Claude Code, Codex, ACP (Cursor, Grok, Kimi and others) and API-model bots.

Can MausBot make YouTube videos?

With the Cliptude server, yes. The bot writes and plans; Cliptude voices it, sources footage, builds graphics and renders one 16:9 MP4.

What does it cost?

A faceless documentary is 22 credits a minute with your own voiceover and 40 with an ElevenLabs voice, on plans from $19/mo.

Is there a free plan?

No. Cliptude has no free plan and no free credits.
