How to make videos with OpenCode

OpenCode is an open-source coding agent that works with any model provider. Add Cliptude as a remote MCP server, sign in with opencode mcp auth, and OpenCode can turn a topic or a script in your project into a finished YouTube video, 6 to 60 minutes long.

Cliptude MCP server URL

https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp

Streamable HTTP. OAuth: OpenCode detects Cliptude's 401, registers itself and opens the browser sign-in (opencode mcp auth cliptude). Or set oauth to false and send Authorization: Bearer with a clp_ key.

How to connect OpenCode to Cliptude

  1. Install OpenCode if you have not:
    curl -fsSL https://opencode.ai/install | bash
  2. Add Cliptude under mcp in ~/.config/opencode/opencode.json for every project, or in opencode.json at the project root (the block below).
    https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp
  3. Sign in. OpenCode opens your browser for the Google sign-in and keeps the token in ~/.local/share/opencode/mcp-auth.json:
    opencode mcp auth cliptude
  4. Check the connection, then start opencode and ask it to list your Cliptude templates:
    opencode mcp list

The entry in opencode.json (OpenCode 1, the current npm release):

{
  "$schema": "https://opencode.ai/config.json",
  "mcp": {
    "cliptude": {
      "type": "remote",
      "url": "https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp",
      "enabled": true
    }
  }
}

On OpenCode 2 (the opencode-v2 Homebrew formula or @opencode/cli), servers sit under mcp.servers and use disabled instead of enabled. There, opencode mcp add cliptude --url https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp writes the entry for you; add --global for every project.

Which way should I connect OpenCode to Cliptude?

Remote MCP server

Start here

Paste the URL and sign in with Google. Nothing to install.

Local MCP server

Works

uvx cliptude-mcp with a clp_ key; it can send files from your disk.

CLI and skill

Works

The Cliptude CLI and skill, for agents that run shell commands.

Why make videos with OpenCode and Cliptude?

Any model

Run the video work on any of 75+ providers, a local model, or ChatGPT Plus or GitHub Copilot.

Reads your skills folders

OpenCode loads skills from .opencode, .claude and .agents folders, so the Cliptude skills load wherever they are.

Scripted batches

opencode run with --format json checks jobs and collects links from a shell script.

Up to an hour long

Finished 16:9 YouTube videos from 6 to 60 minutes, rendered as one MP4.

Real footage and graphics

Cliptude sources footage and archive pictures and builds animated maps, charts, captions and music around the narration.

The price before the build

estimate_credits quotes a job and checks your balance without creating or charging anything.

An OpenCode workflow: research in parallel, upload your own voice

  1. Start opencode in the channel's folder and press Tab to the Plan agent. Plan cannot edit files, so it outlines the episodes and asks questions without touching your scripts.
  2. Switch to Build and @mention the general subagent to research several topics in parallel, each saving a narration to scripts/. Turn on web search with OPENCODE_ENABLE_EXA=1 if you are not on the OpenCode or Go provider.
  3. Ask for list_templates and estimate_credits on each script, then create_job. Cliptude returns its review first, with every setting and the credits, and creates nothing until you confirm.
  4. If you record the narration yourself: OpenCode calls start_voiceover_upload, PUTs each part with curl from its shell, calls finish_voiceover_upload and passes the voiceover_url to create_job.
  5. Collect results from a script: start opencode serve once, then run opencode run --attach http://localhost:4096 --format json "get_job for every job started today" to skip the MCP cold start on each call. Leave out --auto, which would approve create_job too.

OpenCode skills: install the Cliptude skills

OpenCode loads Agent Skills on demand through its skill tool. The agent sees each skill's name and description and loads the full SKILL.md only when it calls skill({ name: "..." }). The frontmatter needs a name that matches the folder and a description.

It looks in more places than most agents. In a project: .opencode/skills/, .claude/skills/ and .agents/skills/, walking up to the Git root. For your user: ~/.config/opencode/skills/, ~/.claude/skills/ and ~/.agents/skills/. Skills you already installed for Claude Code therefore work in OpenCode with no extra step.

The skills CLI supports OpenCode (opencode): a project install goes to .agents/skills/ and a global one to ~/.config/opencode/skills/. permission.skill in opencode.json can set each skill to allow, ask or deny.

For standing instructions rather than a skill, OpenCode reads AGENTS.md in the project and ~/.config/opencode/AGENTS.md, falling back to CLAUDE.md.

OpenCode vs Claude Code for making YouTube videos

Both read your project, run shell commands and can upload a recorded voiceover to Cliptude, and both load the same three Cliptude skills (OpenCode even reads .claude/skills). Choose OpenCode if you want to pick the model or use a ChatGPT or Copilot plan you already pay for. OpenCode's docs note that using Claude Pro or Max through OpenCode plugins is prohibited by Anthropic, so a Claude subscriber runs Claude Code.

Is OpenCode free?

The agent is: OpenCode is open source under the MIT license. You pay for the model. Bring an API key from any of 75+ providers, use a ChatGPT Plus, GitHub Copilot or GitLab Duo subscription, or run a local model.

OpenCode also sells models itself. OpenCode Console is pay as you go, priced per million tokens, with a processing fee of 4.6% + $0.31 on each credit purchase, and some models are free for a limited time. OpenCode Go is a subscription to open coding models at $10 a month, Go Plus at $40 and Go Teams at $20 per member.

None of these include Cliptude. Videos use Cliptude credits, on plans from $19.

What is OpenCode?

OpenCode is an open-source (MIT) AI coding agent, available as a terminal interface, a desktop app and an IDE extension. It works with 75+ model providers and local models, and adds MCP servers, skills and custom agents from its opencode.json config.

OpenCode 1 or OpenCode 2?

Both use the opencode command and cannot be installed side by side. npm's opencode-ai package is OpenCode 1 (1.19.5 on 28 October 2026); OpenCode 2 installs from opencode.ai/v2/install and uses a different MCP layout.

What can you ask OpenCode to do?

"Read scripts/suez-crisis.md and make it with my History template. Estimate the credits first."

"Use @general to research three topics for this month's videos and write a narration file for each."

"Upload voiceover/episode-12.mp3 and make the video from it with my Finance template."

For a key instead of OAuth, set "oauth": false and add "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer {env:CLIPTUDE_API_KEY}" }, so the clp_ key stays in your environment and out of the file.

Which videos can OpenCode make?

Each format is 16:9 and made from a template you save once. On agent-planned formats the agent chooses every shot and graphic itself.

What the Cliptude MCP server can do

44 tools in 7 groups: templates, voices and avatars (9), making a video (8), product videos from a store (4), agent-planned videos (12), your own narration (2), editing a finished video (8), account (1). Your agent sees them all once connected; estimate_credits, create_job and get_job are the ones most videos need. Every tool, with what it does

Troubleshooting

  • Sign-in fails or tools are missing: opencode mcp debug cliptude checks the connection and the OAuth discovery. opencode mcp logout cliptude, then opencode mcp auth cliptude, starts the sign-in again.
  • The config is ignored after upgrading to OpenCode 2: move the entry under mcp.servers and replace enabled with disabled.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a remote MCP server to OpenCode?

Add an entry with type remote and the server url under mcp in opencode.json, then run opencode mcp auth <name> if it needs a sign-in.

Where is the OpenCode config?

~/.config/opencode/opencode.json for your user and opencode.json at the project root. They are merged, and the project file wins on conflicts.

Does OpenCode support OAuth MCP servers?

Yes. It detects the 401, uses dynamic client registration when the server offers it, as Cliptude does, and stores the token.

Can OpenCode make YouTube videos?

With the Cliptude server, yes. OpenCode writes and plans; Cliptude voices it, sources footage, builds graphics and renders one 16:9 MP4.

What does it cost?

A faceless documentary is 22 credits a minute with your own voiceover and 40 with an ElevenLabs voice, on plans from $19/mo.

Is there a free plan?

No. Cliptude has no free plan and no free credits.

What is OpenCode?

An open-source AI coding agent that runs in the terminal, as a desktop app or as an IDE extension, with any of 75+ model providers.

How do I install OpenCode?

curl -fsSL https://opencode.ai/install | bash, or npm install -g opencode-ai. Homebrew's plain opencode formula now installs OpenCode 2; use anomalyco/tap/opencode for OpenCode 1.

Does OpenCode have free models?

OpenCode Console lists some models as free for a limited time; set OPENCODE_DISABLE_FREE_MODELS=1 to hide them. Otherwise you pay your provider.

Does OpenCode have subagents?

Yes. General and Explore are built in, you call one by @mentioning it, and you can define your own with mode: subagent.

Does OpenCode read AGENTS.md?

Yes, from the project root and ~/.config/opencode/AGENTS.md. Run /init to create or improve it; without one, OpenCode falls back to CLAUDE.md.

Is OpenCode open source?

Yes, under the MIT license, at github.com/anomalyco/opencode.

Make your first video from your agent

Plans from $19/mo to $875/mo, priced per finished minute; a 1-hour documentary costs from $32. Cliptude has no free plan, so watch the sample videos first to judge the output.
