How to make videos with Kiro
Kiro is an AI development environment with an IDE, a CLI, a web app and a mobile preview. Add Cliptude to its mcp.json as a remote server, sign in, and Kiro can write a narration, quote the credits and have Cliptude render a finished 16:9 YouTube video from 6 to 60 minutes long.
Cliptude MCP server URL
https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp
Streamable HTTP. OAuth: Kiro runs the browser sign-in itself and registers with Cliptude automatically. Or an Authorization: Bearer header with a clp_ key from /developers/.
How to connect Kiro to Cliptude
- In the Kiro IDE, open the command palette and run "Kiro: Open user MCP config (JSON)". For Kiro CLI, or by hand, the same file is ~/.kiro/settings/mcp.json; use .kiro/settings/mcp.json for one project only.
- Add the cliptude entry below and save. Kiro reconnects its servers automatically when the file changes.
https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp - Kiro opens your browser for the Cliptude sign-in. Sign in with the Google account you use on Cliptude.
- Check the MCP servers tab in the Kiro panel. In Kiro CLI, /mcp auth signs in again if the token was revoked.
- Install the Cliptude skills into Kiro's skills folder:
npx skills add cliptude/cliptude -a kiro-cli - Ask Kiro to list your Cliptude templates.
The cliptude entry in mcp.json. autoApprove lists read-only tools only; anything that spends credits still asks.

"mcpServers": {
"cliptude": {
"url": "https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp",
"disabled": false,
"autoApprove": ["list_templates", "get_template", "estimate_credits", "get_job"]
}
}
}
With a key instead of the sign-in, add "headers": {"Authorization": "Bearer ${CLIPTUDE_API_KEY}"}. Kiro expands only environment variables you approve: search the IDE settings for Mcp Approved Env Vars.

Why make videos with Kiro and Cliptude?
Skills in .kiro/skills
The three Cliptude skills install straight into the folder Kiro reads in the IDE, CLI and web.
Hooks around each job
A Pre Tool Use hook on @cliptude/create_job can check your rules before any credits are spent.
Per-project settings
A workspace mcp.json and steering file keep each channel's template and style with its scripts.
Up to an hour long
Finished 16:9 YouTube videos from 6 to 60 minutes, rendered as one MP4.
Real footage and graphics
Cliptude sources footage and archive pictures and builds animated maps, charts, captions and music around the narration.
The price before the build
estimate_credits quotes a job and checks your balance without creating or charging anything.
A Kiro hooks and skills workflow for a YouTube series
- Keep the channel in one workspace: .kiro/settings/mcp.json with the cliptude entry, the three skills in .kiro/skills/, and a steering file with inclusion: fileMatch on videos/**/*.md that names your template and thumbnail reference video.
- Ask Kiro to use /cliptude-script to research the topic and write the narration to videos/<episode>.md.
- Add a File Save hook on videos/*.md with an agent action: "Call list_templates and estimate_credits for the saved script and report the credits." Kiro fires it whenever the agent saves or edits a script, so every draft comes with a price.
- Add a Pre Tool Use hook with the matcher @cliptude/create_job and an agent action that reminds Kiro to show the full Cliptude review and wait for your confirmation. Then ask Kiro to make the video: create_job returns the review, you confirm, and Kiro sends it again with the review_token.
- Kiro polls get_job until the video is ready. Before sharing it, ask for open_editor_project and view_scenes from the first scene to the last; fix any wrong shot with run_agent, then render_project.
- For the next episode in Kiro CLI, kiro-cli chat --resume picks up the previous conversation in that folder, with the same steering, skills and server.

Kiro skills: installing the Cliptude skills in .kiro/skills
Kiro supports Agent Skills: folders with a SKILL.md file. At startup it loads only each skill's name and description, and it activates a skill when your request matches that description. You can also type / and the skill name, such as /cliptude-script, to load it directly.
Workspace skills live in .kiro/skills/ and work in the IDE, CLI, Web and Mobile. Global skills live in ~/.kiro/skills/ and work in the IDE and CLI. If both have a skill with the same name, the workspace one wins.
The skills CLI has a kiro-cli target that writes to exactly these folders, so one command installs all three Cliptude skills. In the IDE you can instead open Agent Steering & Skills, click +, choose Import a skill, then GitHub, and paste a skill folder's URL: Kiro needs a subfolder, not the repository root, so import the three folders one by one.
Steering files are the always-on counterpart. Put channel rules (your template name, thumbnail reference, tone) in .kiro/steering/cliptude.md; set inclusion: fileMatch so they load only when Kiro works on your script files. Kiro powers bundle skills with an mcp.json; Cliptude does not publish a Kiro power, so use the skills plus the mcp.json entry above.

Kiro vs Claude Code for making YouTube videos
Both connect to the same Cliptude server and read SKILL.md skills. Kiro is the cheaper way to try it, with a free tier and a choice of models, and its hooks and per-project mcp.json suit a repo that holds a channel's scripts. Claude Code suits you if you already pay for Claude and want a video job to run on a schedule in the cloud with your computer off; Kiro's scheduled tasks are built around opening pull requests on a repository.
| Kiro | Claude Code | |
|---|---|---|
| Price to start | Kiro Free: $0 with 50 credits a month; paid plans from $20 a month | Most surfaces need a Claude subscription or an Anthropic Console account |
| Models | Auto, plus Anthropic, OpenAI and open-weight models; Free has open-weight models and Claude Sonnet 4.5 | Claude models; the CLI, VS Code and JetBrains also support third-party providers |
| Where it runs | IDE (built on Code OSS), CLI, Web and a mobile preview | Terminal, VS Code, JetBrains, a desktop app and the web |
| Scheduled runs | Kiro Web scheduled tasks (Pro and up) run against a GitHub or GitLab repo and open a pull request | Cloud scheduled tasks that run with your computer off, Desktop scheduled tasks, and /loop |
| Guard rails around a job | Hooks on Pre Tool Use, Post Tool Use, File Save and more; autoApprove per MCP tool | Hooks before or after actions; per-tool permissions |

Kiro pricing: what the agent costs next to Cliptude
Kiro Free is $0 a month with 50 credits, open-weight models and Claude Sonnet 4.5, with limits. Paid plans are Pro at $20 a month (1,000 credits), Pro+ at $40 (2,000), Pro Max at $100 (5,000) and Power at $200 (10,000). Paid plans can buy extra credits at $0.04 each, and monthly credits do not roll over. On your first upgrade from Free to Pro, the rest of that month is free and you get 500 trial credits to use within 12 months.
Kiro credits pay for the agent's work: reading, writing the narration, calling tools. The video itself is charged to your Cliptude credits, on a plan from $19; Cliptude has no free plan.

What is Kiro?
Kiro is an AI-powered development environment. One agent runs across the Kiro IDE (built on Code OSS), Kiro CLI, Kiro Web and a mobile preview, with specs, steering files, hooks, skills, powers and MCP servers. You sign in with GitHub, Google, AWS Builder ID or AWS IAM Identity Center, and you do not need an AWS account.
Kiro IDE or Kiro CLI for Cliptude?
Either. Both read the same mcp.json and skills folders. The IDE shows the MCP panel and a Re-authenticate button; the CLI suits scripted runs such as kiro-cli chat --no-interactive.
What can you ask Kiro to do?
"Use the cliptude-script skill to write a 15-minute narration on the Suez Crisis into videos/suez.md, then estimate the credits with my History template."
"Make videos/suez.md with my History template and a thumbnail like this YouTube video: <link>."
"Open my last Cliptude video, look at every scene with view_scenes, and list any shot that does not fit the story."
Kiro reads MCP servers from a user file (~/.kiro/settings/mcp.json) and a workspace file (.kiro/settings/mcp.json). If both exist they are merged, and the workspace entry wins, so a project can carry its own Cliptude settings.
Kiro hooks can react to Cliptude calls: a Pre Tool Use hook with the matcher @cliptude/create_job runs before every job, and a File Save hook can ask for an estimate whenever the agent saves a script.
Which videos can Kiro make?
Each format is 16:9 and made from a template you save once. On agent-planned formats the agent chooses every shot and graphic itself.
Faceless Documentary Agent-planned
Narrated documentaries over real footage, archive pictures, maps and charts.
Faceless Top 10 Agent-planned
Ranked countdowns with a numbered title on every entry, ending on number one.
Avatar Video Agent-planned
An AI presenter on screen, with footage and graphics around it.
Vector Explainer Agent-planned
Flat 2D vector scenes, with an optional recurring character.
Talking Head
Your own camera recording, with captions, B-roll and music added.
What the Cliptude MCP server can do
44 tools in 7 groups: templates, voices and avatars (9), making a video (8), product videos from a store (4), agent-planned videos (12), your own narration (2), editing a finished video (8), account (1). Your agent sees them all once connected; estimate_credits, create_job and get_job are the ones most videos need. Every tool, with what it does
Troubleshooting
- The sign-in window never finishes: in Kiro CLI run /mcp cancel-auth, then /mcp auth to start again. In the IDE, use the Re-authenticate button in the MCP panel.
- A security warning lists ${CLIPTUDE_API_KEY}: approve the variable under Mcp Approved Env Vars in the IDE settings, or switch to the OAuth entry with no headers.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a remote MCP server to Kiro?
Add it under mcpServers in ~/.kiro/settings/mcp.json (all projects) or .kiro/settings/mcp.json (one project) with a url field. For Cliptude: "url": "https://mcp.cliptude.com/mcp", then sign in when Kiro opens the browser.
Does Kiro support OAuth for MCP servers?
Yes. Kiro runs the browser sign-in and, for servers with dynamic client registration such as Cliptude, needs no client ID.
Where do Kiro skills go?
In .kiro/skills/ for a project or ~/.kiro/skills/ for all projects. npx skills add cliptude/cliptude -a kiro-cli installs all three Cliptude skills there.
Does the same setup work in Kiro CLI?
Yes. Kiro CLI reads the same mcp.json files and skills folders; /mcp auth, /mcp cancel-auth and /mcp logout manage the sign-in.
What does a video cost?
A faceless documentary is 22 credits a minute with your own voiceover and 40 with an ElevenLabs voice, on plans from $19/mo. Kiro's own credits are billed separately by Kiro.
Is there a free plan?
No. Cliptude has no free plan and no free credits.
What is Kiro?
Kiro is "an AI-powered development environment that helps you build software from prototype to production." One agent runs across its IDE, CLI, Web and a mobile preview.
Is Kiro free?
Kiro Free costs $0 and includes 50 credits a month with open-weight models and Claude Sonnet 4.5, with limits. Paid plans start at $20 a month.
How much does Kiro cost?
Pro is $20 a month (1,000 credits), Pro+ $40 (2,000), Pro Max $100 (5,000) and Power $200 (10,000), with extra credits at $0.04 each on paid plans.
How do I install Kiro CLI?
On macOS or Linux run curl -fsSL https://cli.kiro.dev/install | bash, then start it with kiro-cli. The IDE installer is on kiro.dev.
Is Kiro an AWS product?
Kiro's FAQ ties it to AWS: you can sign in with AWS Builder ID or IAM Identity Center, Enterprise is bought and billed through AWS, and you do not need an AWS account to use it. Amazon Q Developer Pro customers can log in to Kiro with the same credentials.
What is the Kiro autonomous agent?
Kiro Web's autonomous mode, on paid plans: you hand it an outcome and it plans, writes the code and opens a pull or merge request for you to review. Kiro never merges changes automatically.
Make your first video from your agent
Plans from $19/mo to $875/mo, priced per finished minute; a 1-hour documentary costs from $32. Cliptude has no free plan, so watch the sample videos first to judge the output.
