Claude image generator: can Claude generate images?
No. Claude has no image model. Anthropic says it "doesn't generate photos or illustrations the way image-generation tools do"; what it can draw is diagrams, charts and small interactive visuals in HTML and SVG. To get AI images out of a Claude chat you connect a tool that makes them. Cliptude is one for YouTube: every image it generates belongs to a video. Connect it and Claude gets thumbnail options for every video, AI scenes and AI footage where real footage is missing or where you choose an AI look, and new pictures in the editor when a scene needs one. It does not make one-off images on their own.
What Claude can draw on its own
- Diagrams, flowcharts and charts in the chat, drawn with HTML and SVG.
- Small interactive visuals and artifacts: dashboards, documents, simple tools.
- The words and plan for an image: a thumbnail brief, a shot list, the prompt you would give an image model.
It cannot make a photo, a realistic illustration, or a YouTube thumbnail with a face and bold text. That needs an image model, which Claude reaches only through a connected tool.

The images Claude gets through Cliptude
When Claude reviews a finished video with view_scenes, AI-made frames are marked as AI stills, so you can tell them from real footage and swap them if you prefer a real photo.
| Image | When it is made | Models Cliptude uses today | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thumbnail options | With every video, from your brief or a YouTube thumbnail whose style to copy. The title text is drawn into the image | GPT Image 2.5 and Grok Imagine | Included in the video price |
| AI Image + AI Video scenes | In an Avatar Video when you choose AI footage: an AI still for each beat, then a short AI clip made from it | Ideogram and Grok Imagine stills, Seedance clips | 35 credits a finished minute |
| AI stills in a documentary | Only when the footage search finds nothing for a line; never for a line about a named person | Ideogram and Grok Imagine | Included in the documentary price |
| A new picture in the editor | When you or Claude ask Cliptude Agent to replace a scene's picture, from a description or a reference image | FLUX 2 Pro, with GPT Image 2 and others as fallbacks | Agent credits for the run, shown before it starts |
Illustrated videos: Vector Explainer
Vector Explainer draws every scene as an illustration, with the same characters from scene to scene: one of Cliptude's built-in characters, or one you upload. Each scene image is generated for the line it illustrates, and the scenes can be animated. A Vector Explainer is 138 credits a finished minute with moving scenes, or 60 with still scenes and an ElevenLabs voice.
Thumbnails from a Claude chat
Every Cliptude video needs a thumbnail brief or a reference: a written description (subject, people, text, style) or a YouTube video whose thumbnail style to copy. Claude can write the brief or find a reference for you. Cliptude reads the reference's layout, colours and text placement, then makes new thumbnails about your video, not copies of the reference.
When the video is ready, Claude can show the thumbnails, title ideas, description, chapters and tags as a publish kit, and you can download each thumbnail from the Cliptude editor.
Make this a Cliptude video with my documentary template. For the thumbnail, use a rusted fishing boat stranded on cracked desert ground under a hazy sky, with the words "THE SEA THAT WALKED AWAY" in bold white, no faces. Show me the settings and credits before you start.
Find a popular history documentary on YouTube whose thumbnail has one dramatic object and two or three bold words, show it to me, and use it as the thumbnail reference for this video.
From a Claude chat to a video with AI images
- Add Cliptude to Claude as a custom connector (Customize → Connectors on claude.ai) and sign in with Google.
- Ask Claude to write the narration and a thumbnail brief, or to find a thumbnail reference on YouTube.
- Ask it to make the video with your template; for AI footage, use an Avatar Video template with AI Image + AI Video. Claude shows the settings and credits first.
- When the video is ready, have Claude check the scenes and show you the thumbnails and publish kit.
A video made with Cliptude
What a video costs
Cliptude charges credits per finished minute. A faceless documentary is 22 credits a minute with your own voiceover and 40 with an ElevenLabs voice; an Avatar Video is 55. Plans run from $19/mo (1,100 credits, about 28 minutes with an ElevenLabs voice) to $875/mo, and a 1-hour documentary costs from $32 with an ElevenLabs voice or $17.60 on your own voiceover. Cliptude has no free plan and no free credits. Full pricing
Limits to know first
- Cliptude makes images only as part of a video. It does not make single images, logos or product photos on their own.
- Scene images reach you inside the MP4; thumbnails can be downloaded one by one.
- Videos run from 6 minutes to an hour, in 16:9 for YouTube. Cliptude has no free plan and no free credits.
