Can Claude make videos?
Not by itself. Claude does not generate video footage, record a voiceover or render a narrated video, and claude.ai does not take video files as uploads. It is very good at the work around a video: researching the topic, writing narration that sounds spoken, planning every shot, and writing the title and description. There are five ways to get from that to an actual video, from Claude's own Motion templates and Claude Code writing animation code, to connecting a tool that renders the whole thing. With Cliptude as a custom connector, Claude directs a narrated 16:9 YouTube video from 6 minutes up to an hour long, while Cliptude voices it, sources footage for every line and renders the MP4.
Five ways to make a video with Claude
| Way | What you get | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Claude on its own | A script, a shot list, titles and a description. No video. | Anyone who will record and edit the video themselves |
| Visuals in the chat | Diagrams, charts and small interactive visuals drawn with HTML and SVG in the conversation. Not a video file. | Explaining one idea on screen, or a graphic to screen-record |
| Motion templates | An animated explainer built from your content, exported as an MP4. In beta on Team and Enterprise plans. | Short motion-graphics explainers |
| Claude Code and Remotion | Claude writes the React code for an animation; Remotion renders it on your computer. You supply voice and footage. | Developers who want full control of every frame |
| A connected video tool (Cliptude) | A finished narrated 16:9 YouTube video from 6 minutes to an hour: voice, footage for every line, maps, charts, captions and music. | YouTube channels and anyone who wants the whole video made |

What Claude can do for a video
- Research a topic and write a script you can read aloud, with a hook, chapters and an ending that asks for the next click.
- Plan the visuals: what should be on screen for each sentence, which map, chart or timeline explains it best, and where the cuts go.
- Check its own script against sources before you approve it, and tell you which lines it could not source.
- Write the title, description, chapters, tags and thumbnail text for the upload.
- Draw diagrams, charts and small interactive visuals in the chat with HTML and SVG.
- Call tools you connect. Custom connectors let Claude ask another service to do what it cannot, such as voicing and rendering a video.

What Claude cannot do
- Generate photos or video footage. Anthropic's help center says Claude "doesn't generate photos or illustrations the way image-generation tools do".
- Record a voiceover, find footage for every line, cut it to the narration, or render a long-form MP4 by itself.
- Watch a video. The uploads claude.ai supports are documents and images (JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP), not video files, so to work from a video, paste its transcript.

Claude Code and Remotion: video as code
Remotion is a framework for making videos with React: every frame is a component, and the video renders to an MP4 on your machine. Claude Code is good at writing those components, so developers use the pair for animated explainers, product demos and data videos, where every frame is something you could describe in code.
What it does not give you is the rest of a YouTube video. You still record or generate the narration, find and license footage, time each shot to the voice and add music and captions. For a ten-minute documentary that is most of the work. Claude Code can also drive Cliptude, which does those parts, from the same terminal.

How to make a YouTube video from Claude with Cliptude
Cliptude is a YouTube video generator with an MCP server, so Claude can drive it from a chat. Claude picks or creates a template (voice, format, style), writes or takes your narration, and starts the job. Before anything is made, it shows you every setting and the credit price and waits for your yes. Cliptude then records the voiceover, sources footage and pictures for every line, adds maps, charts, captions and music, and renders a 16:9 MP4 you can download or open in the editor.
For agent-planned videos Claude goes further and directs every visual itself: the footage search for each sentence, every map and chart with its data, the transitions and the sound effects. Cliptude then voices, sources and renders exactly that plan. The server has 44 tools, including estimate_credits, which quotes the price before anything is made, and editing tools that let Claude revise a finished video.

Prompts to copy
With the Cliptude connector switched on in a chat, paste one of these and change the topic.
Make me a 10 to 12 minute faceless YouTube documentary with Cliptude on why the Concorde was retired. Research it first, write the narration and show it to me before you build anything. Tell me which lines you could not source. Use one of my Faceless Documentary templates and show me the settings and credits before you start.
Make a Top 10 video with Cliptude: the 10 most expensive engineering failures in history, 8 to 10 minutes. Research each entry, write the narration in countdown order, show it to me, then build it with my Top 10 template.
Here is my narration. Use it word for word, do not rewrite it. Make it into a Cliptude video with my documentary template, plan a map or chart wherever the script gives a place, date or number, and show me the price first.

From a Claude chat to a finished YouTube video
- In claude.ai or Claude Desktop, open Customize, then Connectors, and add a custom connector with the Cliptude server URL.
- Sign in with your Cliptude Google account when Claude opens the browser window.
- Ask Claude to research your topic and write the narration, and read it before you approve it.
- Ask it to make the video with one of your Cliptude templates. It shows you the settings and the credit price first.
- Claude follows the job and gives you the link to the finished MP4, then can open it in the editor for changes.
A video made with Cliptude
Faceless Documentary
A faceless documentary made with Cliptude: every line of narration gets its own sourced shot, with cards, maps and charts where the script calls for them.
Made from Claude over MCP
Claude picked the angle, checked the script against sources and reviewed every scene before the render, using Cliptude's MCP tools.
What a video costs
Cliptude charges credits per finished minute. A faceless documentary is 22 credits a minute with your own voiceover and 40 with an ElevenLabs voice; an Avatar Video is 55. Plans run from $19/mo (1,100 credits, about 28 minutes with an ElevenLabs voice) to $875/mo, and a 1-hour documentary costs from $32 with an ElevenLabs voice or $17.60 on your own voiceover. Cliptude has no free plan and no free credits. Full pricing
Limits to know first
- Videos run from 6 minutes to an hour, in 16:9 for YouTube. Cliptude does not make Shorts or Reels.
- claude.ai cannot send a file from your computer, so to build a video around your own recorded voiceover, upload it in the Cliptude wizard, the CLI or Claude Code.
- Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector. Cliptude has no free plan and no free credits.

Frequently asked questions
Can Claude make videos?
Not on its own. Claude does not generate footage or record narration. It writes and plans the video; Motion templates export short animated explainers on Team and Enterprise plans, and with a connected tool such as Cliptude it directs a finished, narrated YouTube video.
Can Claude generate a video from a text prompt?
No. Claude has no text-to-video model. Give it the topic, let it write the narration, and a connected video tool renders the video.
Can Claude watch videos?
No. claude.ai takes documents and images as uploads, not video files. To have Claude work from a video, paste its transcript, or send still frames as images.
Can Claude watch YouTube videos?
Not the video itself. Paste the video's transcript into the chat and Claude can summarize it, pull quotes or turn it into a new script.
Can I upload a video to Claude?
No. The supported uploads are documents (PDF, DOCX, CSV, TXT and others) and images (JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP). With Cliptude, Claude can still change a video it made by opening it in the Cliptude editor and asking for new shots by timeline item.
Can Claude make videos for free?
Claude's Free plan can write the script and connect one custom connector, but rendering a video needs a video tool, and Cliptude has no free plan: plans start at $19/mo.
Can Claude Code make videos?
Yes, two ways: it can write Remotion animation code that renders on your computer, or drive Cliptude through its MCP server to script, plan, render and revise a full YouTube video, including one built on a voiceover file from your computer.

A faceless documentary is 22 credits a finished minute with your own voiceover and 40 with an ElevenLabs voice, on plans from $19/mo. A 1-hour documentary costs from $32 with an ElevenLabs voice.
