Can Grok make videos?
Yes, short ones. Grok Imagine generates video clips from a prompt or an image, with sound, and on the xAI API each clip runs 1 to 15 seconds. That is enough for a shot, a meme or a B-roll insert, not a YouTube video: a ten-minute video would be forty separate clips with nothing tying the story, the voice or the look together. For a full video, Grok can work the other way round: connect Cliptude, and Grok writes and directs a narrated 16:9 video from 6 minutes to an hour long while Cliptude voices it, sources footage for every line and renders the MP4.

What a ten-minute video built from Grok clips would take
A ten-minute YouTube video is 600 seconds. At the 15-second maximum that is forty clips, each from its own prompt. On the API that costs about 48 dollars on grok-imagine-video-1.5, 30 on grok-imagine-video or 12 on 1.5-lite, before any clip you throw away and regenerate.
The bigger cost is the work between the clips. Each one is generated separately, so keeping one narrator, one look and one storyline across forty of them is up to you: you write the script, record or generate the voiceover, time every clip to it, cut them together, and add music and captions in an editor. Grok Imagine is a shot generator, and a YouTube video is mostly everything around the shots.

How Grok can make a full YouTube video
Grok can call outside tools. On grok.com you can add custom connectors, and on the xAI API remote MCP tools work in the native SDK and the Responses API over Streaming HTTP or SSE. Cliptude's server is a remote MCP server, so Grok can drive it from a chat: it researches the topic and writes the narration, picks or creates a Cliptude template, shows you the settings and the credit price, and starts the job. Cliptude records the voiceover, finds footage and pictures for every line, adds maps, charts, captions and music, and renders a 16:9 MP4 from 6 minutes to an hour long.
You can still use Grok Imagine for what it is good at: a single striking shot. Upload it to the finished video in the Cliptude editor.
